Walk to Everest Base Camp, and pay for a school

Teams have walked to Everest Base Camp and on to Chyangba Village since 2008. Sponsors pledge an amount for every vertical foot you climb, and the mountain does the fundraising.

Gerri Kier

Hello! Gerri Kier here. Greg and I are Colorado. In my journey of life the most amazing people and opportunities have been literally dropped into my path; trekking throughout the Nepal region and helping the school in the Chyangba has been no exception. I look forward to the lives that will be touched through the efforts of Education Elevated (improving education and educating children in Nepal) and blessings that will flow from the trekking trips we will do.

Questions about the trek

Sponsors pledge an amount for each foot of elevation a trekker gains. A single expedition gains thousands of feet, so the mountain does part of the fundraising. It is where the name Education Elevated comes from, and it sits alongside direct gifts, Rotary clubs and local fundraisers.

No. Most support comes from sponsors who pledge against a trekker's climb, and from direct donations. Teams have walked to Everest Base Camp and on to Chyangba since 2008, but the school is funded by the people backing them as much as by the people walking.

The Pikey Peak route runs five to eight hours of walking a day for seven days, topping out at 3,835 m at Saharsbeni. Teams are led by guides who know the terrain, and support staff carry the equipment. It is a trekking route, not a climb.

Yes. The August 2026 flash floods struck a 72 km stretch of the Trishuli River corridor in the Rasuwa district. Chyangba Village sits in Solukhumbu, in the Everest region, which was outside the flood zone. Trekking routes in Solukhumbu remain open.

Experienced Nepali guides who know the terrain and the local customs, with kitchen staff and porters carrying the equipment. Their salary and insurance are part of the trip cost.

Twelve people walk. A village keeps its school.

If you cannot go, back someone who is going: every vertical foot a trekker climbs is already spoken for.
